"You-tastic" Quilt--Going Global!

"If you leave....take this quilt block with you."

I'm participating in the "Quilt Around the World II" swap with 25 quilters from across the globe. Each member makes a starter block and then we send that block along the address loop. Each person then makes a complimentary block to add to the starter block and forwards the package to the next person. At the end of the cycle, all members should receive 25 blocks in their color/theme from group members across the globe.

Pretty cool, no?

My starter block is pictured above and my hope is that everyone will make a scrappy "personality" block. The fabrics, colors, and style are up to each individual, but I'm requesting that somewhere in the block they include a piece of fabric that says something about the crafter.

For example, in my block I used a cassette tape. I love 80s teen movies, especially those that John Hughes had a hand in. This block is a tribute to that aspect of my personality.

I'm calling this the "You-tastic" Quilt and I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

Stay tuned!

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's a....Sleeve-O-Rama?!

A friend at work asked if I could make her a Clutch-O-Rama for her husband. She plans to surprise him with a Kindle Fire for his birthday and she thought a New York Giants or Superman themed cover would be excellent. I was thrilled, but I also worried the Clutch-O-Rama...might be slightly too much fabric. I also really wanted to make it special and try to incorporate both of his passions....so from that desire the Sleeve-O-Rama was born!

All kinds of super men represented here...
On one side the New York Giants are represented.

Turn it inside out and there is Superman, keeping Metropolis safe and sound.

I think she's going to like it! I know I do!

Giving is good and all, but receiving is AMAZING!

So, I shared with you the story behind my contribution to the Modern She Made Swap on Flickr. While I loved playing with the whimsical Heather Ross fabrics and creating a few extras to include in my package, that feeling doesn't quite match how I felt when I ripped into the package sent to me by my partner....all the way from Canada!

Sparkle Punch Mini Quilt by Kateyz

It's perfect..from the grey print...to the multicolored stars...to the striped key chain and candy bar. I absolutely adore this and can't wait to find a permanent home for it in my sewing room. I'm so inspired by the talent of all the participants in this swap and I look forward to future rounds.

Seriously thrilled!
